Chumley's permanently closed, Scuttlebutt Coffee to move in

May 11, 2021

After five years of serving burgers in Padanaram, Chumley’s has permanently closed its doors.

According to a Facebook post from the restaurant, Chumley’s closed in part because management was “unable to find quality staff for this season.”

It’s a sad day for our family, but we remain excited about the revitalized village and are proud of the role Chumley’s played in that,” owner Jordan Hitch said.

The Bridge Street building won’t be empty for long, as Scuttlebutt Coffee Co. plans to offer its baked goods and espresso-based drinks from a permanent Dartmouth location in late June.

Over the past 18 months, the business ran pop-up coffee shops at Little Moss in Padanaram as well as in Westport and New Bedford.

Co-owner Casey Cutting said the initial plan is to open on weekends only, offering breakfast and lunch — with the intent to expand hours and days as the staff adjusts. Menus will be set on a week-to-week basis.

There will also be a location in New Bedford that will operate Wednesday through Friday.

“It’s going to be weird for us to not be moving around all the time,” Cutting laughed. “But we’re super excited about the Dartmouth location.”
