Dartmouth police arrest Fall River man on firearms charges

A motor vehicle stop on Tuesday, Oct. 17 led to a firearms and driving under the influence arrest, according to a release from the Dartmouth Police Department.

Dartmouth Police Officer Matthew Desrosiers arrested Frederick James Smith, Jr. from Fall River for driving under the influence of alcohol, and while conducting an inventory search of the car, located a loaded 38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver beneath the driver seat. 

Smith was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, speeding, carrying a loaded firearm without a license (second offense), possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, carrying a firearm without a license (second offense) and improper storage a firearm, according to the Dartmouth Police Department.
