Dartmouth Police unveil department’s first all-electric cruiser

Dartmouth continues to bleed green as the police department takes another step toward sustainability with its first all-electric cruiser.

A 2025 Chevrolet Blazer electric vehicle equipped with the Police Pursuit Vehicle package, the department unveiled the new vehicle at the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association Trade Show on Wednesday, April 9 in Marlborough.

The move is part of a broader effort by the department to modernize its fleet and support the town’s environmental goals. Dartmouth is recognized as a Green Community by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources, a designation that reflects its commitment to energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives.

Police Chief Brian P. Levesque said the addition of the electric cruiser reflects the department’s dual commitment to public safety and environmental responsibility.

“The introduction of the new electric police cruiser is a testament to our department’s forward-thinking approach,” Levesque said. “We are committed to protecting our community while also protecting our environment. This vehicle not only meets our officer safety standards and operational needs but also aligns with our sustainability goals moving forward.”

The 2025 Chevrolet Blazer is currently the only electric vehicle on the market outfitted with a pursuit package, specifically built for law enforcement use. The electric vehicle offers several advantages, including lower emissions, reduced fuel and maintenance costs and quieter operation.

The department began integrating hybrid cruisers into its fleet in 2020. Today, most of its patrol vehicles are hybrids, which offer better fuel efficiency and reduced environmental impact compared to traditional gas-powered models.

The new electric cruiser will go into immediate service with the Patrol Division. Officers selected to use the vehicle will provide feedback on its performance and efficiency during routine patrols.
