Regardless of a 14 to 13 loss to Middleborough High School, Dartmouth High School had lots of pride for their Pride Night game on Friday, Sept. 18.
“Just a great high school football game,” said Dartmouth coach Rick White, “We came up one point short, but proud of my guys for their effort.”
Dartmouth had a strong start with a touchdown and an extra point in the first minute. The team scored another touchdown right before halftime, bringing the score to 13 to seven.
Middleborough secured the win with a touchdown with an extra point in the final five minutes of the game.
Three Dartmouth players were injured during the game, contributing to the loss.
“We played a really great first half,” White said, “Had a couple injuries, so that didn’t help the situation. But it was a hard fight.”
Dartmouth had the opportunity of stopping Middleborough, according to White, but Middleborough made a fourth to first down conversion that ended in a touchdown.
The motto of the game was “White out the stands, black out the scoreboard.” The stands were filled with students decked in white shirts, paint, boas and more.
For Pride Night, the marching band performed at half time with the color guard. The cheer team performed during the game, keeping the pride up.
The concession stand was open with all sorts of food, the proceeds from which benefited the Music Association. The cheerleaders also went around the stands during halftime for further proceeds.
There were tables with Dartmouth Indians merchandise and information on school groups like the Parent Teacher Organization and the cheer team.
“Great effort by both teams,” said White, “But our guys played hard all night.”
