Dartmouth School Committee looks ahead to future projects

The School Committee announced that they ended Fiscal Year 26 having spent a majority of their budget, with only $10.37 left. Now that Fiscal Year 27 is starting up, the Committee is looking ahead to what projects they will be working on. 

The Committee is currently working on a schematic design for a new roof for the high school. Once the design is finalized, possibly around November, they can submit it to the Massachusetts School Board Authority for funding. 

 If approved, the project will have to go through a final design phase and approvals, according to James Kiely, the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations. Construction would probably not start until the school year ends in 2028.  

As this would in HVAC repairs and replacements, this is a larger project than it seems on the surface. This is not the largest project that the schools are hoping for funding with, as they are also looking to replace the current middle school. 

The MSBA will also be visiting Dartmouth to conduct a senior study to determine whether they will fund the construction of a new middle school. 

This is one of 34 senior studies the Authority will be conducting. 

“I’m excited to show them where we are,” said Kiely, “I think it reflects well on us that we haven’t done a major project with MSBA yet … and the fact the the community has done a lot of long-term planning.”
