Girl Scouts return to cookie sales

Feb 5, 2022

Cookie season is underway in Dartmouth and the girls from Brownie Troop 67087 are more than ready to be back to hosting booths for the first time since 2020.

The troop held a cookie booth outside the Dartmouth Walmart on Feb. 5.

Due to the pandemic, the girls last year had to find ways to get creative with their sales — including individual pop-up trunk-or-treat-style booths. But for 2022, restrictions were lifted and the troop could once again have their regular table.

“We haven’t been able to do this in the past two years,” said troop co-leader Rebecca Dutra. “These girls are so excited to be back.”

Along with raising money for the troop, Dutra said  the case of cookie sales allows the girls to work on their multiplication and subtraction when conducting financial transactions, and getting them more comfortable with socializing with adults through customer engagement.

“These are all things they haven’t really been able to do since they were stuck at home the past couple years,” Dutra said.

For many of the troops members, this was their first year running a table.

Giselle Khalife, 7, said that so far her first year at the booth has been a good one. She has especially enjoyed being able to conduct the sales and see people enjoy her favorite cookie: Lemonades.

“It’s shaped like a lemon and has frosting,” she said. “They’re really good.”

Fellow troop member, nine-year-old Bella Vieira said she also enjoyed being able to make sales with her friends. The only part of the cookie booth she was not fond of, she said, was having to do it outside in the winter.

“I don’t like it,” she said.

Dutra said that sales have been pretty steady at the booth.

She noted that during their first weekend back in late January that Troop 67087 went through 50 cartons of boxes. People also made separate donations to support the troop.

“The community has been so great,” Dutra said.

Money from this year’s sales will go toward funding future projects and outings the troop has planned for this year, including the return of the yearly camping trip.

“They’ll really have to crank out those cookies,” Dutra said with a smile.

Upcoming sales will be held on Feb. 18 and 26 outside the Dartmouth Walmart located at 506 State Road. Cookie boxes cost $5.
