Grant to pay for high school boilers
The town's recent designation as a "green community" is already paying off. Town officials will use part of a recently awarded state grant to improve energy efficiency at the high school.
After applying for a "green community" designation and adopting Stretch Code — a building code that applies to new residential construction and specific commercial projects — at October Town Meeting, the town is eligible for state monies that will promote sustainability and energy-efficient changes.
Town Administrator David Cressman said that $215,000 of a $223,750 grant, along with a $40,000 Eversource rebate, will help fund four high-efficiency boilers at the high school.
Cressman said that this first grant could also fund LED lighting installation at the schools.
