Here’s what the Council on Aging has planned for April
April is here and the Dartmouth Council on Aging will be hosting a full schedule of events/activities. Here’s what’s coming up this month:
Council on Aging newsletter

Coffee Hour is back
Fresh coffee, baked goods and fruit will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.
Single senior supper club
The dinners will be held on the first Tuesday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m. and will include dinner, dessert, coffee and a 50/50 raffle. The dinners are open to residents of Dartmouth and surrounding towns. The cost is $3.
Gentle dance yoga with Jane Hoffman
The Center will host weekly yoga sessions which combine dance moves with the typical positions. Classes will be held Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $5.
Meals on Wheels lunch party
Celebrate 50 years of Meals on Wheels with a free lunch on Friday, April 15 at 11:30 a.m. The event will feature a meal of Italian stuffed shells with cake for dessert. There will also be music, bingo, and prizes. Preregistration is required.
Tai chi ball with Joe Rebelo
Exercise body and mind with a six-class series of the Chinese martial art, Fridays April 22 to May 27 from 10 to 11 a.m. The cost is $20 for all six classes.
Neurographic Art with Christine
Experience “the art of positive change” on Thursday, April 21 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $5. No art experience is required and all supplies are included.
Watercolor painting with Jane Bregoli
Learn a variety of watercolor techniques with this four-class series, which meets every Monday in April from 10 a.m. to noon. Painters should have some prior experience with watercolors and must bring their own supplies. The cost is $50 for all four classes.
Games
Bridge will be held Mondays from noon to 3 p.m. Cribbage will happen Tuesdays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mahjong is on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m (bring your own tiles).
Billiards can be played Monday through Friday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Pool lessons for beginners are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Classes are free but preregistration is required.
Osteo exercise
A free, mostly-seated exercise class that helps stimulate bone growth. Classes are held on Mondays at 10:15 a.m. and Fridays at 10 a.m. Bring your own hand weights.
Strength and flex with Larry Bigos
On Mondays and Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m., get a full body workout for $2 per class. Walk-ins are welcome. Bring hand weights if you have them.
Dance for Parkinson’s Disease
Classes are held Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and incorporate exercise with cognitive tasks and social interaction.
Chill with Ava the great dane
Ava the great dane service dog will pay weekly visits to the senior center on Mondays at 11:30 a.m. for social time.
Everybody’s book club
This group meets on the second Monday of every month at 1 p.m. April’s book is “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern.
Art Class with Carol Veiga
This bring-your-own-materials art class provides a place for artists to work on their own projects with an instructor present to help as needed. Classes are held on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $10 per class.
Zumba gold with Michelle
A lower-intensity version of the popular aerobic dance class. Sessions are held Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $7 per class.
Guided meditation with Lynda
This free class is held Tuesdays from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Bring a pillow or blanket for comfort if you wish.
Cam’s body awareness and adaptability
Learn to eliminate the risk of falls with exercise physiologist Cam Bergeron on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. and Fridays from 11:15 a.m. to noon. The cost is $2 per class.
French conversation and culture
Join retired French professor Suzanne Pelletier for an hour of light-hearted French on Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
Gazebo Gals
Have coffee and a conversation Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon.
Resistance Bands with Larry Bigos
Participate in a resistance band workout Wednesdays at 1 p.m. Classes cost $2 apiece.
Country Three Band
The band will return on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $4.
Knitting for charity
Join the charity knitting group on Thursdays at 9 a.m.
Sewing for charity
Join the charity sewing group on Thursdays at 10 a.m.
Veterans’ corner
Join Matt Brouillette, Dartmouth’s Veteran Service Officer, at 9 a.m. on the first Friday of every month for a casual gathering of area veterans.
