Historic Tucker Road house to be moved

Apr 23, 2019

A small 19th-century house on Tucker Road will be moved to a new location following a vote by the Dartmouth Historical Commission on Monday evening.

Joe Lemieux was granted permission to move the historic building at 705 Tucker Road after entering a verbal agreement to preserve it.

The Historical Commission had previously denied a request made by the property owner, Charles Macomber, to demolish the house.

Macomber thought that he would be better able to sell the property without the house on it, as the structure has asbestos.

He has since found a buyer for the land.

A number of Dartmouth residents expressed interest in saving all or part of the building, but Lemieux was able to give the most detailed plan as to how he would accomplish the task.

He said during the meeting that he has already saved a number of historical structures out of interest.

Lemieux estimated that it would take around one month to relocate the house to his own property at Hixville Road.

The house dates to around 1870 and is located in the corner of a 3.12 acre lot. A small Greek Revival style Cape, it has one bed, one bath, and a total area of about 756 square feet.
