Inmate dies of apparent suicide at Dartmouth jail

A 35-year-old inmate at the Bristol County House of Correction has died following an apparent suicide in his jail cell Wednesday, the District Attorney’s Office reported.

According to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jonathan Darling, a medical emergency was reported at around 7:50 p.m. following the inmate’s return from Attleboro District Court.  

The inmate first arrived at the Faunce Corner Road jail on Tuesday, Darling said. 

Corrections officers and health care professionals administered emergency medical treatment until EMS arrived, which transported him to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford.

The inmate was pronounced dead at around 8:50 p.m. The male’s identity was not released.

The cause of death is currently under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.

No further specifics on the death were released, but foul play is not suspected at this time.
