Land trust cleans up Buttonwood Brook

Sep 20, 2022

Volunteers and staff from the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust met at Buttonwood Brook on Saturday, Sept. 17 to clean up the waterway.

The cleanup, which took place between Milton Street and Russells Mills Road, was part of the larger Buttonwood Brook-Apponagansett Bay Restoration Project, which is being led by The Buzzards Bay Coalition.

The project, which is estimated to last five years, tackles water quality issues in Padanaram Harbor and its major tributary, the Buttonwood Brook. Work is funded through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Southeast New England Program, which focuses on local watersheds including Buzzards Bay.

On Saturday, the coalition focused cleanup efforts on the pond at Buttonwood Park.

The DNRT’s involvement in the project has been spearheaded by Land Steward Leah McFarland. For more information on the project, visit www.savebuzzardsbay.org/buttonwood-to-bay/.
