Bones and bikes for Dog-tober
The Harley-Davidson store was filled with barking and whining during the Harley-Davidson and Fall River Animal Shelter Dog-tober dog adoption event on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The event had a raffle, dog costume contest and dogs up for adoption. Many people donated items such as food, bedding, toys and blankets as well as money.
Madison Reis, an animal caregiver with the animal shelter, said events like this are good so people can feel out the personalities of the animals.
There were only three dogs up for adoption, as in the past two weeks the shelter has had about 20 dogs adopted out.
The adoptable dogs were also dressed up for Halloween. Two pitbull sisters, Panda and Passion, were dressed as a bumblebee and a sheep. Atlas, a husky, was dressed as a taco.
Hunter Johnson, the marketing director for Harley-Davidson, heard that past adoption events held at the shop went really well, and as she believes in “adopt over shop”, decided that it would be a good project for her first community outreach event.
She said that the Harley-Davidson community loves dogs, even having sidecars on their motorcycles for their furry family members.
“I’m happy that they’re going to have a chance at a nice little Harley home,” Johnson said.
A few shop members brought their dogs to compete in a costume contest. Sam Martin, who works at the store, brought his dog Luci dressed as Wednesday Addams. April Lanard, whose father works at the shop, brought her dog Buzzy dressed as “Mr. America.”
“I thought it would be awesome to get some dogs some homes,” said Johnson.
