Looking at 'A Lifetime of Looking' at the Dartmouth Cultural Center

Pamela Hoss uses herself as a “vehicle for expression” in her art, painting self portraits that involve her dressing up, posing and performing.
“These works have given me a voice to express myself as a woman and the roles I have played as a daughter, mother, artist, teacher and wife,” she said.
Hoss has been an artist her whole life, taking classes at the Museum of Fine Arts growing up. She later got a bachelors of fine arts from Southeastern Massachusetts University and a masters from Tufts University.
Hoss traveled a lot during this time, from Mexico City to Italy. She received a National Endowment for the Arts, Regional Visual Artist’s Fellowship in 1994.
She taught drawing at UMass Dartmouth from 1988 until 2018, but her art career didn't end with retirement. She continues to draw self portraits and show at exhibits nationally, such as at the MFA and at the Dartmouth Cultural Center.
Her current show, Pamela Hoss: A Lifetime of Looking, will be shown from Friday, Sept. 4 through Saturday, Sept. 26.
“I know [Pam] from being in shows with her,” said Jill Law, the exhibit director for the Cultural Center, “She’s a good artist.”
Hoss will give an artist talk on Sept. 26 at 1 p.m.
