Volleyball team wins senior night
In what ended up being a close and energetic game, the Dartmouth High School Volleyball team won their Senior Night game on Friday, Oct. 16 against Joseph Case High School three to one.
Each of the five seniors walked out with their family, and received a bouquet from their fellow players. The five seniors are Lindsey Barber, Brianna Ledesma Gassman, Amanye Burgess, Lillian Screponi and Madeline Enos.
“It feels a little bit surreal,” said Barber, “I’m pretty sad that it’s coming to an end, but senior year is the year to shine and I think all our seniors are shining.”
Burgess added, “A lot of people said that it would go by fast … it’s kind of setting in now.”
The team also called out the seniors from Case, and gave each of them a bouquet as well.
The game started strong for Dartmouth, with them winning the first two periods. Case then won the third by 15 points.
Case took the lead in the fourth period, but Dartmouth caught up and tied the score at 24 to 24. The score went back and forth, with one team leading and the other catching up. The game ended when Dartmouth won that period 29 to 27.
The crowd was energetic, cheering through each period regardless of how Dartmouth was doing. When the game ended, friends of the team flooded the field to create a high-five line for the players.
The first time that Dartmouth faced off against Case, Case won three to zero. This started a three game losing streak this season, so head coach Rachel Lassey was very excited about the win.
“We needed that, and they are one of the toughest teams that we played,” said Lassey.
She added, "No matter what happens moving forward [the team] can remember this moment … we never let up for a minute. Very, very proud coach today. I knew they could do it.”
The captains of the team agreed that the game was a necessary success.
“Today was a huge breakthrough for us because we’ve been having a little rough patch recently, but this game has definitely boosted our confidence,” said Barber.
According to Burgess, Dartmouth has never beaten Case like they did this time. She described it as “a really big deal.”
