Our beloved mother, Mary C. Santos, 98, of So. Dartmouth died Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her loving family following a period of declining health. She was the widow of Manuel C. Santos.

Born in New Bedford, Mrs. Santos resided in So. Dartmouth for 60 years and was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church.

She was employed as a cafeteria worker for Dartmouth High School until her retirement. Her co-workers became her lifelong friends and she so enjoyed being a part of the student experience.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Doing for her family was her number one priority, whether that was cooking for children and grandchildren or crocheting every child and grandchild a full size afghan. You could feel her warmth as you entered her home.

Her family includes two sons, David C. Santos and his wife, Gertrude and Daniel C. Santos and his wife, Lyne all of Dartmouth; two daughters, Kathleen C. Sousa and her husband, Manuel of Acushnet and Donna C. Maré and her husband Nelson of Dartmouth.; 11 grandchildren, including the late David R. Santos, 13 great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. She was the sister of the late Manuel Correia.

We ask that in mom’s memory, you show a kind gesture to someone in need.

Due to the current mandated restrictions regarding public gatherings, her service and interment in St. John Cemetery are private and entrusted to AUBERTINE-LOPES FUNERAL HOME, 129 Allen St., New Bedford.
