On Friday, April 2 the Dartmouth Cultural Center will be opening its new in-person exhibition of abstract painting from 5 to 7 p.m.

The exhibit features local emerging artists in a retrospective of abstract acrylic painting completed by students at the cultural center over the past three years.

Taught by DCC President Jill Law, the abstract acrylic painting class is the longest running class offered by the center and draws inspiration from artists such as Helen Frankenthaler, Richard Diebenkorn, Lee Krasner, Sam Francis, and others.

Each of the artists has submitted several paintings created in the class in addition to others created after taking the class.

“I’ve put them through their paces not only with the fundamentals such as composition and color theory, but also working on a variety of substrates with surface preparation an integral part of the painting process,” Law noted. “It’s been a pleasure to watch them grow artistically and witness the pride they have in their accomplishments.”

The artists showing their work are: Michael Antonell, Elizabeth Brinkerhoff, Lisa Busnengo, Mary Hurwitz, Thomas Leverett, Theresa Manning, and Beth Russo.

Masks are required and attendees are asked to follow social distancing guidelines.
