New Bedford man fatally struck by car near Moby Dick Motel

Clifford Kerns, 49, of New Bedford, was fatally struck by a vehicle on Sunday, Sept. 1 near the Moby Dick Motel, according to Dartmouth Police.
Police respond to the incident around 4:30 a.m., transporting Kerns to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries to which he succumb to the following day, police said.
According to Police Chief Brian Levesque, the crash was witnessed by Officer Caden Kehoe who was traveling down State Road.
Levesque said Kerns was not in the crosswalk and the driver of the vehicle stopped when the crash occurred.
No charges have yet been filed, and the crash remains under investigation by the Dartmouth Police Department, State Police and District Attorney’s Office.
