No injuries in Summit Avenue house fire

No injuries were reported after District 3 fire crews put out a basement fire in a house off Rt. 6 in North Dartmouth on March 1.

According to District 3 Fire Chief Richard Arruda, the call came in at around 6:30 p.m. for an alarm sounding at a house located at 13 Summit Avenue.

“First crews that showed up had heavy smoke showing, and they had fire at the electric panel in the basement,” said Arruda. “But the panel was still live. So we called Eversource immediately. We couldn’t wait for them to come, because the house was on fire. So we cut the power.”

Four residents were already outside the building upon fire crews’ arrival, Arruda said. The fire was put out within 15 minutes.

Both the basement and first floor sustained “substantial damage,” Arruda added.

Summit Avenue was re-opened to traffic at around 9 p.m.
