Parking ban extended to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday
The parking ban has been extended to 3:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon to allow for extended cleanup operations.
Tim Barber, the director of public works, said the department is extending the ban because of the severity of the storm.
"Due to the amount of snow we're getting, we have to give our guys a little break so we can come back and keep them alert and keep them safe," he said.
Barber said that so far crew members have been keeping up with the storm but noted that it's been a challenge.
"Most of the night they couldn't see the front of [their] truck or the plow," he said. "It's whiteout conditions."
Barber advised that people stay off the roads so that the road workers can get them clear and safe for drivers.
"They'll all be better of," he said.
Barber said that the department of public works is hoping that the storm will die down around noon and that the crew will continue clearing the roads.
He also noted that Eversource has also been dispatched to assess power outages, but due to the high winds they are facing delays.
"They'll have to hold off until the wind dies down to be able to do some of the repairs," he said.
Solid waste and recycling collection has also been canceled for Tuesday, Feb. 24 and the transfer station and brush drop off area will be closed.
