Parking ban issued ahead of blizzard

The Dartmouth Department of Public Works has announced a parking ban in effect from 6 p.m. today through noon on Sunday, Jan. 30 in anticipation of a blizzard that could see upward of 30 inches of snow hit town.

No parking will be allowed on the hydrant side of streets. If there is no hydrant, residents should park on the even house numbered side.

The Transfer Station and leaf/compost drop-off at 759 Russells Mills Road will also be closed on Saturday, Jan. 29.

The announcement comes as a National Weather Service blizzard warning remains in effect in southeastern Massachusetts from 12 a.m. Jan. 29 until 12 a.m. Jan. 30., with a possible snowfall of 17-22 inches and wind gusts as high as 60 mph.

Travel is not advised. If you must travel during the storm, the National Weather Service advises keeping an extra flashlight, food, and water in

your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Tree damage is possible from the high winds and could cause power outages, according to Eversource.

In preparation for the outages, the energy provider has called in has called in hundreds out-of-state utility crews.

“Trucks are fully stocked, gassed up, and ready to go for hundreds of mutual aid lineworkers from Michigan and Florida. They flew in this morning to help repair any damage Saturday’s nor’easter may bring,” Eversource posted to Facebook Thursday.
