Pick N Pay clerk fends off armed robber with baseball bat
On April 28, an employee of the Pick N Pay convenience store on Dartmouth Street fended off an armed robber with a baseball bat.
The robber fled with cigarettes but took no cash, according to Dartmouth police.
The suspect, dressed all in black with a mask covering part of his face, was armed with a knife when he demanded cash from the clerk at about 10 p.m., said Detective Kyle Costa, a spokesman for the Dartmouth Police Department.
The clerk was uninjured in the robbery and the robber made off with several cartons of cigarettes.
Costa said the Dartmouth Police Department discourages people from fighting back in robberies, especially if the attacker is armed.
Within minutes of receiving a robbery call, officers saw a red Honda Civic leaving the area at a high rate of speed with its headlights off, Costa said.
Dartmouth police are asking for the public's help in the robbery. Anyone with information should contact Detective Sean McGuire at 508-910-1733 or call the department's anonymous tip line at 508-997-9900.
