The Dartmouth Police Department and District No. 1 Fire Department recovered a body in the waters off of Smith Neck Road on July 26.

Authorities recovered the body of 65-year-old quahogger Manuel Marques at approximately 9:00 p.m., approximately ¼ mile south of the Padanaram Bridge.

The Dartmouth man was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Though Marques's death does not appear to be suspicious, he will be assessed by the state medical examiner’s office, said Dartmouth Detective Kyle Costa.

Detectives from both the local and state police—including the Bristol County district attorney's office—were assigned to the investigation.
