Proposed office building is not coming to Dartmouth
The Zoning Board of Appeals allowed the applicant for an office and masonry construction business at 576 Faunce Corner Road to withdraw his petition.
The petitioner wanted to build an office building within the office district, but wanted the office to double as a one-stop-shop for their masonry business.
The building would have a garage and storage area for supplies, with a parking lot facing out toward the road. They would store excess construction materials on site, have construction vehicles in contractor bay and do repairs on site.
At the last meeting on Feb. 12, the zoning board was under the impression that the office would face the road, with all storage and parking behind the building. However, after a site plan was shown at the Monday, March 2 meeting, they discovered the office building would be at the back of the property.
Faria stated he was uncomfortable signing off on an office that was not compatible with the surrounding area, which is mostly medical offices. He was worried about the noise levels disturbing the quieter area.
After hearing the petition, the zoning board members indicated that they would not be voting to approve the zoning request. The applicant, John Williams, asked if he could request a withdrawal without prejudice so the denial will not count against him in future zoning requests.
Williams stated he will not be bringing this same application before the board.
