Take a closer look at the night sky with a high-power telescope at UMass Dartmouth’s Observatory.

The university will host a series of free public open house events this spring. During the events, members of the university and the Astronomical Society of Southern New England (ASSNE) will be on hand to help people look at the night sky through the university’s 16-inch telescope and other telescopes operated by ASSNE members.

The open houses are scheduled for March 30 at 8 p.m., April 27 at 8:30 p.m., and May 18 at 8:30 p.m.

The observatory is located to the right o f the main campus entrance off of 285 Old Westport Rd. Parking is available on Ring Road or in Lot 17.

Admission is free, and children are welcome to attend with adult supervision.

Observation sessions only take place when weather permits, because clear skies are necessary. In the event of cancellation, an announcement will be available before each event at 5 p.m. at https://www.meetup.com/ASSNE-MA-RI/.
