Revolutionary happenings at the Akin House

Jun 27, 2025

True history buffs can enjoy “Never Idle hands-Living in Early America,” a two-day event hosted by the Dartmouth Heritage Preservation Trust from from Saturday, June 28 to Sunday, June 29 and will take place at the Akin House, a known witness site to the American Revolution.

The event is free and open to the public. Visitors are welcome to stop by during the weekend at their convenience.

On the 250th anniversary of the formation of the Continental Army, reenactors will interpret camp life of a local rebel militia including demonstrations of training drills to prepare for battle over the two days.

On Sunday, June 29, new and returning participants of this annual event will join the "campsite" for enhanced reenactments of life in the latter 18th century when the war for independence was heating up.

Visitors can expect chats with wandering reenactors on site, a chocolate-making demonstration and step into a period coffee house. There will also be a tour of the Akin House to view  artifacts and gain insights into the Akin family's role in the region's shift from loyalty to the Crown to the pursuit of American independence.
