Schools close, parking ban issued ahead of anticipated snowfall

Dartmouth Public School students will have a snow day Tuesday, Feb. 28, the district announced Monday evening.

The announcement comes in anticipation of a winter storm that could see 4 to 6 inches of snow and hazardous driving conditions.

UMass Dartmouth has also canceled in-person classes, the university announced Tuesday morning. Students at Bishop Stang will have a remote learning day.

Additionally, the town’s Department of Public Works has announced a parking ban in effect from 8 p.m. today through 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

No parking will be allowed on the hydrant side of streets. If there is no hydrant, residents should park on the even house numbered side.

According to the National Weather Service, snow should develop between 10 p.m. tonight and 2 a.m. Tuesday morning. There will also be wind gusts up to 35 mph.

Snow will diminish in intensity Tuesday afternoon and could mix with or change into rain near the coast.
