As the season comes to a close, Dartmouth teams prep for playoffs

With the regular season officially in the books, Dartmouth’s high school sports teams are headed to the playoffs.

Ice hockey and boys’ and girls’ basketball teams from both Dartmouth High and Bishop Stang all qualified for their post-season tournaments, which will begin on Monday, Feb. 27.

Dartmouth High’s top-seeded team of the winter season was the boys’ basketball team, which qualified as the 12-seed after a 16-4 season earning a bye-week in the process. The team’s first game will be at home against Bedford (21) on Thursday, March 2 at 6 p.m.

The girls’ basketball team, meanwhile, qualified 29th for the Division 2 tournament with a record of 11-9. It will begin the tournament at home against Middleboro (36) on Monday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m.

The Dartmouth High boys’ ice hockey team will enter the playoffs as the 31-seed after a 10-10 season. It will host Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School at Hetland Arena on Monday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m.

At Bishop Stang, the top-performing team was the girls’ hockey team, which finished 12th with a record of 13-5-2. The team will take on Whitman-Hanson (21) at home in a round of 32 game that has yet to be scheduled.

The girls’ basketball team finished with a record of 14-8 to take the 13-seed. After a bye-week in the preliminary round, the team will go on to host Dennis-Yarmouth (20) in the round of 32 on Thursday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m.

The Stang boys’ basketball team will start as the 21-seed after an 8-12 season. The team will host Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School (44) in the preliminary round on Wednesday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m.

Finally, the Spartans’ hockey team finished the season with a record of 7-12-1, earning the 32-seed in the process. It will host Ludlow (33) at Hetland Arena on Monday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m.
