SMART Training at Southcoast Behavioral Health

Aug 1, 2016

The Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) of Bristol County sponsored training for Sensory, Motor, Arousal, Regulation Treatment (SMART) on July 28 and July 29. The two-day training was held at Southcoast Behavioral Health at 581 Faunce Corner Road.

SMART training addresses the treatment of youth who have had complex traumatic experiences, and who continue to struggle with dysregulated emotion, behavior, and physiology. This training included education about the origins of this dysregulation, a framework for intervention with these prominent symptoms, and specific intervention tools and strategies. This workshop aimed to enhance clinical practice for both intermediate and advanced practitioners through didactics, case presentation, concrete skill-building, and experiential practice and activities.

The CAC partners with clinicians throughout Bristol County in an effort to build a community that is engaged in evidence based treatment for children and families that are referred for mental health services by the CAC.

This was the fifth training offered by the CAC since 2011. These trainings have offered upwards of 250 clinicians from Bristol County expert training in evidence based treatment models for an ever increasing need of families impacted by complex trauma.
