Students and teachers 'feud' to raise funds for UNICEF
Name one way Dartmouth High School’s National Honor Society could entertain students while also raising funds for charity. And the survey says, a spirited game of Family Feud.
On Friday evening, two teams of teachers and two student teams squared off against each other on the auditorium stage.
Hosted by the National Honor Society, all proceeds from the event were donated to the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund.
Each year, the group raises money for charity as part of its service requirement, but this was the first year the students came up with the game show idea.
“They worked so hard to put on this production,” said National Honor Society advisor Catherine Madsen. “Every one did a tremendous job. They really are a great group of people.”
The group raised approximately $2,000 for UNICEF, Madsen said.
More than 200 people arrived for the fundraiser, which featured a panel of judges, the Family Feud theme music and sound effects and an audience poll used to generate the answers used in the game.
Hosts James Cassell and Patrick Kitchen bantered with team members and each other throughout the night, interjecting some humor into the proceedings.
One student team did very well in the category, “name an unusual place where babies have been born,” prompting Kitchen to say: “It worries me a little they seem to know all the answers.”
