UMass Dartmouth reports that since the start of the semester on Sept. 1, four students have tested positive for Covid-19 — with three of those testing positive in the past week.

A total of 3290 students have been tested thus far, giving a rate of 200 positive cases per 100,000.

“All students who visit or reside on campus are required to be tested,” stated university spokesperson Ryan Merrill, noting that faculty and staff are also encouraged to get tests, which are provided on campus. “With such robust testing and participation, we expect more positive cases throughout the semester.”

Although Merrill declined to say how many of the Covid-positive students reside on campus, he stated that special rooms have been set aside for them to quarantine. Students who commute to class and test positive must quarantine at home. 

Merrill added that UMass Dartmouth is working with boards of health for each positive individual’s place of residence to ensure quarantine policies are followed and relevant information is shared for contact tracing efforts.
