Eat sweets.
Dartmouth Village will host a bake sale to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Available will be desserts, homemade malassadas, clam chowder, and clam cakes. To place an order in advance, call (508) 999-0404. Brookdale Dartmouth Village is located at 274 Slocum Road.
Saturday, August 19
Take aim.
Round the Bend Farm will host a farm stand — complete with non-GMO and grass-fed meat, seasonal veggies, honey, maple syrup, and herbal teas — at its 92 Allen Neck Road location, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tours of the farm will also be available.
At 1 p.m., archer Hana Tabit will host a demonstration on the property. Beginner equipment will be available for those wishing to test their aim. To reserve a spot in the archery demo, email desa@roundthebendfarm.org.
Remember history.
Dartmouth's Rotary Club will sponsor a trip to the “Moving Wall” — a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, in Wareham through August 21 — for veterans. The Council on Aging will provide free transportation for veterans at 10 a.m. Interested persons can contact Scott Ciardi at (781) 702-0059 for more details.
Discover reptiles.
The Lloyd Center will host a discussion on Massachusetts' cold-blooded creatures at 12 p.m. at its 430 Potomska Road location. Visitors will meet some of the Lloyd Center’s native creatures. For members, the cost is $5 for individuals, $10 for a four-person family; for non-members the cost is $7 for individuals, $15 for a family. Dance and sing.
Musicians and storytellers David Bates and Roger Tincknell will appear at the Southworth Library at 2 p.m. The musical duo will showcase their participatory performance of stories and songs suitable for all ages. Sunday, August 20
Author meet-and-greet.
The Dartmouth Historical & Arts Society will welcome University of Massachusetts professor and author Len Tavers at its 6:30 p.m. meeting. Tavers will talk about his most recent book, "Hodges' Scout: A lost patrol of the French and Indian War," a story of young colonists tragically caught up in a war they barely understood. A $5 donation is suggested. The meeting will be held at 1205 Russells Mills Road.
Monday, August 21
Look to the skies.
The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and the Society of Physics Students will host a solar eclipse viewing party at the university observatory, 2-3:30 p.m. The event is free to attend, and necessary ISO-certified eclipse sunglasses will be provided. Professors and experts will be on hand to answer questions about the eclipse. The university observatory is located on the university's 285 Westport Road campus in a field on the right-hand side of the main entrance.
