Thursday, November 14

Spell for a cause. 

The Dartmouth Education Foundation will host its 9th annual spelling bee from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Dartmouth High School auditorium. During the bee, 28 teams of three members will compete to see who is the best speller. The annual event is a fundraiser for the DEF’s grant program, which provides funding for teachers to use in the classroom. It is free to attend, and there will be door games starting at 6 p.m. Visit defma.org for more information.

Friday, November 15

See a musical. 

Enjoy a free morning performance of the musical Annie, Jr. at Friends Academy, 1088 Tucker Rd., at 10:30 a.m. This shortened version of the classic Broadway musical, specially designed to be performed by children, is appropriate for all ages. The public is invited to attend. 

Or see a play. 

The Bishop Stang Theatre Company will present playwright Joseph Kesselring's “Arsenic and Old Lace” on Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16 at 7 p.m. on the stage at Bishop Stang High School, 500 Slocum Rd. “Arsenic and Old Lace” follows the story of the eccentric Brewster family. The quirky comedy is full of plot twists and colorful characters. General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.

Honor Dartmouth’s veterans and see some football.

There will be a dedication of a new memorial for Dartmouth’s fallen heroes at Memorial Stadium, 400 Slocum Rd., during the Dartmouth High football game against Medfield. Kickoff for the game is at 7 p.m., and the dedication will be held at halftime. 

Saturday, November 16

Tour a farm.

Round the Bend Farm will open its 92 Allens Neck Road farm for tours, shopping, and special activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tours will be offered at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Produce and meat will be on sale throughout the event. Three special programs are scheduled: A kid and adult friendly “upcycling” wreath-making workshop at 11 a.m., poetry at 1 p.m., and ukulele performances from 3 to 5 p.m. Visit roundthebendfarm.org for more information. 

Learn about turkeys. 

The Lloyd Center will host a special “Turkey Trot” guided walk focusing on turkeys starting at 10 a.m. at the 430 Potomska Rd. center. During the two-hour event, participants will make turkey callers and head out on the trails in search of turkeys. The cost is $5 for members or $7 for a family of four, or $15 for members or $21 for a family of four. Pre-registration is required. Visit lloydcenter.org to pre-register.

Buy a mattress, help the band. 

The Dartmouth High Music Department will host its third annual mattress fundraiser at Dartmouth High School from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the sale, brand name mattresses like Simmons Beautyrest and Therapedic Mattresses will be on sale for up to 50 percent off retail prices. 

Celebrate Diwali. 

UMass Dartmouth will host a celebration of Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the 285 Old Westport Road campus’s main auditorium. The event will include two hours of entertainment, 15 performances, and an authentic vegetarian Indian dinner. Tickets are $5 for UMass Dartmouth students and $10 for the public.  Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and the show starts at 5 p.m. Visit webapps.umassd.edu/events/sail/ to buy tickets.
