Tour Allen’s Mill, explore Destruction Brook Woods on Sept. 12
The Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust (DNRT) has schedule two events to be held during the Dartmouth Grange Fair on Sept. 12.
Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust is offering tours of Allen’s Mill, the historic mill on Slades Corner Road. The site has been used for mill work as early as 1711, and operations continued there until the 1950s. The mill site was purchased by DNRT along with Destruction Brook Woods in the aughts.
Tours will be held anytime between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Allen’s Mill is located on the north side of Slades Corner Road, between 107 and 111 Slades Corner Road, approximately 4/10ths of a mile from Russell’s Mill Village.
Also on Sept. 12, DNRT Land Stewardship Assistant Kate Losey will be leading a nature walk through Destruction Brook Woods starting at 11 a.m.
The 280-acre Destruction Brook Woods Reserve includes miles of walking trails, mature woodlands and Destruction Brook itself, once a major source of power for the mills of Russell’s Mills.
The 1-hour walk begins and ends at the Dartmouth Grange parking lot on Fisher Road in Russell’s Mills Village.
