UMass Dartmouth receives $500,000 in state funding for offshore wind research
Governor Maura Healey 20 across the state groups funding for projects that will prepare workers for careers in offshore wind and maritime as well as projects that research the marine environment.
The total amount awarded was $4.2 million, with UMass Dartmouth receiving $500,000 for two projects.
The first $250,000 creates 30 paid internships in the offshore wind internship program. The second gives $280,501 to continue a study that focuses on how offshore wind affects cod spawning, and $199,589 to create a data-collection strategy for future offshore wind development in the Gulf of Maine.
The data-collection strategy is also paired with Regional Wildlife Science Collaborative & Northeast Regional Ocean Council, which was awarded an extra $30,000.
