Upcoming Lloyd Center events

The Lloyd Center for the Environment will be hosting a Women’s Canoe Trip on the Slocum River with Outreach Director Liz Moniz on August 15 from 6 - 8:30 p.m.

There will be a short hike through the Lloyd Center’s forest to the launch site, and clothing and footwear that can get wet is recommended.

Participants will meet at the Lloyd Center Headquarters at 430 Potomska Road in South Dartmouth. Equipment provided. Bring a non-alcoholic beverage.

The cost of the trip is $32 for members and $40 for non-members. Ages 15 and older. Space is limited, so please register early. Pre-registration deadline is 12 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14. 

Also on August 15, the Lloyd Center will be hosting a Moonlight Stand-Up Paddling Tour on the Slocum River led by an Osprey Sea Kayak certified instructor from 6:30-8:30 p.m. 

Underwater LED lights on the boards will illuminate the water below as participants paddle under the light of the moon and stars.

The cost is $65 for members and $80 for non-members. Ages 15 and up. Previous SUP experience is recommended. The pre-registration deadline is noon on Tuesday, August 13. This trip is limited to eight people, so register early.

There will be a sunset kayak tour of the Slocum River on August 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. hosted by the Lloyd Center and led by an Osprey Sea Kayak instructor. Participants will be able to view waterfowl and the river’s salt marsh ecosystem at sunset.

The cost of the event is $45 for members and $55 for non-members. Beginners welcome. Age limit is 15 and older, although kids ages 12 -15 are allowed with a parent or guardian. Wear clothing and footwear that can get wet and bring a non-alcoholic beverage.

Pre-registration is required by noon on Wednesday, August 28. Space is limited.
