Victim of home invasion concerned for neighbors

Feb 22, 2019

The victim of an armed home invasion and robbery, who wishes to remain anonymous, says he’s concerned for other senior citizens after his home was broken into on Wednesday morning.

At around 10:30 on February 20, four men armed with a gun came into the victim’s home on Gibson Terrace through the unlocked garage and threatened him with a gun.

The homeowner fought back with a bat, but sustained multiple injuries to his face from being hit with the gun.

In a press release, the Dartmouth Police Department described the suspects as three white men wearing black clothing and one black man wearing gray clothing. The victim said that they were wearing ski masks and hoodies, which prevented him from removing the masks to better see who they were. He thought that the oldest man was in his thirties, and one seemed to be as young as 16 or 17 years old.

The homeowner said that the men were badgering him about a “chest of money,” which he does not have. He says that they stole three diamond rings, a chain, a knife with a decorative handle, and $400, which he had set aside to pay his taxes.

The homeowner felt that he had been targeted because he is a senior citizen who lives with his disabled son.

“Be aware of your surroundings,” he said. “Old people can realize that there’s a lot of harm out there for them. Now I know how vulnerable we are.”

The homeowner said that he thought that the attackers had likely been watching the house to get a sense of his routine, and emphasized that he hadn’t done anything that would bring him into contact with violent people. He is a retiree who mostly stays at home with his dogs and his family.

Gibson Terrace is located in a neighborhood at the corner of Sharp Street and Slocum Road. The homeowner hopes that a neighbor might have caught footage of the suspects, because they parked down the street and took off their masks as they ran to the car, which he thinks was a small SUV.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Dartmouth Police Department.
