What to know about the upcoming Memorial Day parade

May 25, 2022

Memorial Day is May 30 and the Town of Dartmouth will once again host its annual parade to honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The parade will kick off at 9 a.m. at the town landing on Gulf Road and will proceed across the Padanaram Bridge and Causeway where the VFW Ladies Auxiliary will conduct the ceremonial wreath placement.

After that, the procession will turn left onto Elm Street and proceed to the Elm Street Cemetery for a ceremony including brief remarks by State Rep. Chris Markey and a prayer from retired Dartmouth Rev. Salvatore.

The festivities will end at the World War I memorial outside the old police station on Russells Mills Road for a reading of the names of Dartmouth’s fallen soldiers since the Great War, along with remarks from Select Board Chair David Tatelbaum and Veterans Advisory Board Chair Chris Pereira.

There will then be a rifle volley followed by the playing of “Taps.”

Also participating in this year’s parade will be members of the police and fire departments, the American Legion, cub scouts, revolutionary soldiers and the school band.

Serving as the grand marshal is Gold Star father Gerald Enos, whose son Peter died in Iraq in 2004.

There will be no parking along the parade route, although parking will be available on nearby streets and business lots.
