Woman fatally struck by vehicle in Padanaram
A 73-year-old Dartmouth woman was fatally struck by a vehicle while in a crosswalk by the Padanaram bridge Tuesday, Dec. 17.
According to Chief Brian Levesque, at approximately 3:45 p.m., officers and other emergency personnel responded to the scene, which was in the area of Bridge Street and Water Street.
Fire and rescue arrived shortly after and rendered aid. The woman was then transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries where she was later pronounced deceased.
Levesque said speed was not determined to be a factor in the cause of the accident, but noted solar flare may have played a role.
The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and has been cooperative with the investigation, according to Levesque. No charges have been filed at this time.
An investigation remains ongoing by the Dartmouth Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit, the Dartmouth Police Detective Division and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
