A Yarmouth police officer gunned down in the line of duty on April 12 was a South Coast native and a graduate of Bishop Stang High School.

Officer Sean Gannon, 32, was a 2003 graduate of Bishop Stang High School, according to school officials. Members of his family are also graduates of the Dartmouth school, including his father Patrick, mother Denise, and siblings Timothy and Martha.

Gannon also leaves behind a wife, Dara.

"Sean's service and sacrifice will always be remembered at Bishop Stang High School. May he Rest In Peace," school officials said on its Facebook page.

Gannon was shot while serving a warrant at a home in Marstons Mills, a village in Barnstable on Cape Cod. Gannon died of his injuries.

Gannon’s K9 partner was also shot during the incident. The dog’s condition is unclear.

The suspect in the shooting, 29-year-old Thomas Latanowich, was ordered held without bail at his arraignment on a murder charge in Barnstable District Court on April 13.
