If you are reading this, you have already discovered DartmouthVillageSoup.com. In this space, we want to make sure you also discover Dartmouth Week / DartmouthVillageSoup video.

Even before our May 8 launch, reporter Seth Thomas was been busy with his camera and editing skills, documenting Dartmouth life on video.

His first video project, done for our launch week, showcased the talented Dartmouth High School cast of “Chicago.” The short video features outtakes from the show and on-camera interviews with performers. See it here.

Accompanying this week’s story on the Slocum River Reserve’s River Project, a video lets some of the artists whose work is displayed in the natural setting talk about what they are striving to do in Dartmouth, how they produced the art and how they would like people to view it. Want proof that working with pieces of heavy metal poses hazards that paint-brush artists don’t experience? As you watch the video here, look closely at sculptor Isabel Mattia’s hands as she talks about creating her giant steel sprouts.

In between stage and open-air art, Seth produced two other videos:

Combining the focus on students and art, he documented the Friends Academy tradition of graduating eighth graders creating tiles to leave behind as an artistic legacy at the school. See the young artists here explain their projects and their motivations.

In a completely different vein, Seth attended the casting competition to select a host for a planned online video show designed to find homes for supposedly unadoptable pets. It turns out that the video doesn’t feature the winner (check out her story here), but it does feature a lot of engaging dog lovers explaining why they would be a great face for “The Unadoptables.” See it here.

More video is in progress – so please keep coming back!
