Dartmouth celebrates as Patriots head to Super Bowl

Not an empty bar stool could not be found at Busters Sports Bar and Grill as the New England Patriots cruised to a 36-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers and secured its place in the 51st Super Bowl on January 22.

Pats fan Ken Barber was happy to see his home team in the lead.

“The Steelers keep leaving [New England wide receiver Chris] Hogan open,” he said, pointing to the mistake as one the Patriots kept capitalizing on.

The cheering fans and a long queue of takeout orders over the past few weeks of playoffs have kept the restaurant busy, said owner Mark Stone.

“It’s always very busy during the playoffs, except the Super Bowl,” Stone said, explaining that home Super Bowl parties tend to lighten bar traffic, but only when the Patriots are playing. Stone said he is already planning takeout specials to compensate on Super Bowl Sunday.

Fay’s Restaurant and Pub was feeling that home party effect. Manager Samantha Medeiros said crowds at the bar were sparse during Sunday’s American Football Conference championship game. She surmised that many football fans watched the game from home.

That doesn’t mean the restaurant was not busy, however. Chefs were kept busy takeout platters and orders, a trend Medeiros expects to continue.

“We usually do a lot of party platter orders on Super Bowl Sunday,” Medeiros said, adding that it’s easier for fans who do not want to do a lot of prep work.

The Patriots will face the Atlanta Falcons for Super Bowl LI on February 5, following the Falcons 44-21 win against the Green Bay Packers on January 22.
