Dartmouth Police dogs assisted in the arrests of suspects in separate breaking-and-entering and shoplifting incidents at Lizzie's Liquors and Target on Saturday, October 7.

Officer Marc Vachon responded to an alarm at Lizzie's Liquors on State Road shortly after 4 a.m., where he found that someone had broken a window and taken merchandise from the store, according to police.

The suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Sean Barry of Washington Street in North Attleboro, was no longer at the scene, so Officer Christopher Flechsig and his canine partner, Sig, were called.

The pair tracked Barry to a wooded area close to the store, where he was arrested. Barry is charged with breaking and entering, larceny of less than $250, and two counts of vandalizing property.

Later that day, Officer Jared White and his canine partner, Reaper, tracked down and located a New Bedford man who allegedly stole $500 worth of merchandise from Target.

Dartmouth Police Officer Darren Emond was responding to the incident around 3 p.m., and while en route, noticed the 2004 Nissan Quest van that the suspect was traveling in turn onto Wolcott Avenue from State Road. Emond then found the van on Pinehurst Street, where he saw the man fleeing from the vehicle into the woods, police said.

White and Reaper found the man, who police identified as Jimmy Guzman Hernandez, 34, of Bullard Street in New Bedford. Hernandez is charged with larceny in excess of $250 and the unlawful deactivation or removal of a theft detection device.
