Quinn fifth graders help out hurricane victims

Oct 11, 2017

A group of Quinn School fifth graders rallied the school into raising 75 boxes of goods for Hurricane Maria and Irma victims.

The six fifth graders – Samantha Carreiro, Ava Cassara, Katherine Cheesebro, Aubrey DeSouza, Ella Houlihan, and Angelina Morena – penned a letter to their classmates and families on the last week of September soliciting donations.

Students asked for different necessities from each grade level – from asking kindergarten students to bring in soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo and other toiletries, to fifth graders who were challenged to collect batteries, soap, first aid supplies, and hair brushes.

With just under a week to collect donations, students managed to pack more than 75 boxes of supplies by their deadline of October 3.

On October 4, supplies were sent to the New Bedford United. The organization will then send the supplies to areas in need.
