Route 6 Wendy's reopens after grease fire

Nov 19, 2017

An afternoon fire on November 19 forced an evacuation of the State Road Wendy's and left the restaurant closed for much of the day.

According to Dartmouth Fire District No. 3 Chief Richard Arruda, crews responded to a report of a machine on fire at the 449 State Road (Route 6) restaurant at 1:51 p.m.

By the time firefighters arrived, the restaurant had already been evacuated, but a grease fire was still burning within one of the restaurant's machines. Crews used a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames.

Arruda said the fire was contained to the single machine, which has been taken out of service and will need to be replaced. No damage was reported to the building itself, other than cleanup required from the flames and fire suppression system activation.

The fire left the restaurant closed for much of Sunday afternoon and into the evening. As of 5:30 p.m. employees had placed a sign on the door that read "We are closed due to technical difficulties Sorry for the inconvenience. We will be open soon."

Fire crews remained at the scene until the Board of Health took over and gave the all-clear, allowing the restaurant to reopen that night.

No injuries were reported, Arruda said. It is unclear what caused the grease fire.
