Deer tick presentation, June 14

Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust will host a program on ticks and how to stay safe outdoors at its headquarters on June 14, 7 p.m.

The presentation will be hosted by Larry Dapsis, an entomologist with 36 years of professional pest management experience. He is the Deer Tick Project Coordinator at the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension and is a member of the Barnstable County Task Force on Lyme and other Tick-Borne Diseases.

Discussion topics will include the basic life cycle and ecology of deer ticks, information on the distribution and rates of tick-borne illness, and information on a database under development to track infection rates of ticks.

Dapsis will discuss a "three-point protection plan" consisting of protecting yourself, your yard, and your pet. A questions-and-answers session will also be held.
