The Dartmouth High baseball team is not letting a final regular season loss put a damper on its postseason plans.

The Indians ended its regular season with a June 1 loss to Brockton High, bringing the final regular season record to 13-7.

“We hit a little skid kind of towards the end of the season… we just stopped doing the little things we were doing the first 12 [to] 13 games,” said Head Coach Mike Frates.

The team did qualify for the postseason several games earlier. Frates said his team needs to improve offense on the bases and on the plate before the first game. Practices have focused on staying sharp with hitting and running bases. He’s also relying on team coordination.

“We’ve had a lot of players do a lot of different things well,” Frates said. “Again, we don’t have any superstars so everything is a team effort for us.”

The baseball team is seeded fifth in the Div. 2 South tournament, and faces 12th-seeded Milton in the first round of the playoffs on June 7 at 4:30 p.m. at home.

The Dartmouth High softball team is also preparing for a postseason run. Softball faced a 3-2 loss to Somerset Berkley on May 28 to end its regular season, but Head Coach Beth Arguin noted the final record — 16-4 — is one of the best finishes since she took over as coach.

The record placed the Indians right in the middle of the Div. 1 South bracket with a No. 10 seed. The position bought the Indians a preliminary round bye, with the first round game set for June 9 against Silver Lake at home at 2 p.m.

Arguin has been working on hitting to get the team ready for postseason play, which had been a problem in the last few games of the season due to a “drought” as players struggled to come up to the plate and get a hit.

Boys lacrosse advanced in the postseason with a 13-2 win against Bristol-Plymouth. Boys tennis also advanced with a 4-1 win over Catholic Memorial. Girls tennis ended its postseason bid with a 3-2 loss to Holliston. All three games were June 6 after being rained out on June 5.
