Junior Regatta happening in July

The New Bedford Yacht Club will be hosting its 24th annual Junior Regatta on July 7 and 8.

This year 420, Optimist, Laser Radial, and O’pen Bic sailors will also be allowed to participate in the races, which have seen 170 boats and 250 sailors in the past years. Parents can drop off boats on July 5, with volunteers directing where trailors can go. The racing area will be the Padanaram outer harbor and approximately one-fourth mile south of Apponagansett Bay.

On July 7 and 8 the Skippers will meet at 9 a.m with races to follow. On July 8 the last Optimist Green Fleet race will start no later than 12:30 p.m. the last Optimist/O'pen Bic race will start no later than 1 p.m. and the last 420 and Laser race will start no later than 2 p.m. Lunch and award ceremonies will follow the races. The Green Fleet Award Ceremony will take place at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Registration must be submitted no later than July 1 at 2 p.m. and can be completed online at www.nbyc.com/racing/nbjr. It costs $85 per sailor and a $20 late fee will be applied to anyone who registers late. The New Bedford Yacht Club is located at 208 Elm St.
