Armed standoffs ends with arrest on Old Fall River Road

A Dartmouth man was arrested after an alleged hours-long standoff with police at a home on Old Fall River Road, which began on July 24 and continued into the early hours of July 25.

According to Dartmouth police, officers responded to 511 Old Fall River Road for a report of a disturbance at 8:49 p.m. on July 24.

When police arrived, family members told officers David Lechan, 63, who lives in the home, had allegedly fled into the woods behind the home with a gun. By the time a SWAT team responded, Lechan allegedly re-entered the home and barricaded himself inside.

A police negotiator was dispatched to the scene. At 4:15 a.m., Lechan allegedly fired a shot into the air from the back deck of the home. He allegedly exited the home again at 4:50 a.m., and was taken into custody without further incident.

Lechan faces charges of assault and battery, intimidation of a witness, threats to commit a crime, and discharging a firearm within 500’ of a building.
