Expect to see a new face riding putting out fires in Fire District 1 — recruit Anthony Meath will join the squad following his graduation from Massachusetts Firefighting Academy this week, the district announced.

The ceremony took place on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at the Fall River Fire headquarters.

“We are proud of Anthonys accomplishments and welcome him to the Department,” Chief Peter Andrade said.

The 240-hour long program teaches the essentials of fire and non-fire conditions, life safety, search and rescue, ladder operations, water supply, pump operation and fire attack.

“First responders are on the frontlines protecting their communities and these newest firefighters are needed now more than ever,” MFA Director David Evans said in a release. “We have taken greater advantage of online learning technology, reduced group training size to increase social distancing, implemented screening, and required mask-wearing to keep our instructors and students as safe as possible during these uncertain times.”

Meath was one of 33 graduates representing the 14 fire departments of Avon, Berkley, Dartmouth-District 1, Dartmouth-District 3, Dighton, Freetown, Halifax, Lakeville, Marion, Mattapoisett, Plympton, Raynham, Wareham, and Westport.
