Boys cross country team competes at the Meet of Champions
Competing as a team for the first time in the MIAA Meet of Champions, the Dartmouth boys cross country squad ran to a 19th place finish on Nov. 16 at Fort Devens.
Senior Tyler Amaral was the first Dartmouth athlete to cross the finish line, coming in 25th place overall, in a field of 186 Division 2 athletes.
Twenty-three Division 2 teams across the state qualified for the event during the Cross Country Championships meet on Nov. 9, also at Fort Devens.
At the championships meet, the Dartmouth athletes finished in seventh place, which secured the runners their spot at the final, and most competitive, race of the season.
At the Meet of Champions, team captain and senior Jared Mendonca was the second Dartmouth athlete to finish, coming in 86th place with a time of 17:59 on the 5K course.
Senior Jacob Anuszczyk, junior Finn Sperry, sophomore Joseph Oliver-Wong, junior William Walker and senior Adriano Sousa also competed on Saturday.
“It was a great experience for the boys team to compete at the state championship,” Sousa said after the meet. “[I’m] proud of this year’s team accomplishment to come this far.”
